The Fastest Way To A 0 Balance On Your Credit Card

Anyone who has financial troubles dreams about having a credit card 0 balance. If you carry a large balance on one or more credit cards you may consider switching to one that gives you zero percent on balance transfers.

By doing this you can use your money to actually pay down on debt rather than paying high interest on that deficit. The issue that many people run into when they are trying to pay down their debt is that only a sliver of their monthly payments go to the principal amount owed. By doing away with interest you can be assured that all of your payment goes directly to the balance.

If you choose to switch to an interest free balance transfer and you have significant credit card debt you may not be able to pay it all off during the introductory period. The typical interest free period is six months. If you fall into this category you might try tarting as a way of repaying the debt. Tarting is the process of transferring your credit card debt from one interest free card to another until you achieve a credit card 0 balance. There are some difficulties and things you need to be careful of if you choose tarting. However, it can be a great way to rid yourself of credit card debt for good.

Do’s and Dont’s of credit card 0 balance through tarting:

  • Do look for balance transfers that have a zero percentage rate in your mail and online.
    * Do try to find deals that do not charge fees for the service, if there are fees find the lowest ones possible.
    * Do look for balance transfer rates that have long introductory periods, some can last nine or twelve months.
    * Do not attempt credit card 0 balance through tarting if you are not able to pay your bills on time. Late payments will usually void the introductory deals.
    * Do not make purchases on your balance transfer card. Purchases are subject to higher interest rates and credit card companies use your payments to pay off the cheapest debt first. If you purchase something you will pay interest on it until your balance transfer is paid in full.
    * Do cut up your old credit cards so that you stop using them completely.
    * Do be very aware of when the introductory offer expires and transfer the remaining balance just before it runs out and begins accruing interest.
    * Do not attempt a balance transfer among cards that are from the same bank. For example, it is ok if they are both branded Visa or MasterCard but not if they are both ANZ. Usually banks will not allow balance transfers between the same cards.

Once you have a credit card 0 balance do your very best to keep it that way. If you are careless with your credit cards it can follow you forever. But, if you have the fortitude to get yourself out of debt then you can certainly manage to keep it that way.
