St George Vertigo Review

Any St George Vertigo review should make mention of the fact that Money Magazine this year awarded it “Australia’s Cheapest Balance Transfer Credit Card“. It also gained that honour the previous two years. St George must be doing something right to hold onto that top-spot for three years running. It is also a Cannex 5-star rated credit card.

St George Vertigo review details:

This is a great regular credit card to have in your wallet with its low rate on purchases of 11.99%. There’s not much lower than that on the market at the moment. For anyone who occasionally leaves an unpaid balance on their credit card, this is the ideal card.  For those times when the balance is cleared, there are 55 interest-free days to enjoy. Sticking with that figure, the annual account maintenance fee for this credit card is $55, which is a reasonable price for the benefits offered.

Also deserving mention in this St George Vertigo review is the offer of 2.99% on balance transfers for six months from when the card account is opened. It might not be the 0% offered elsewhere, but most of those deals carry a much higher regular APR that kicks in when the offer period expires.

The only problem with any purchases made on a card with a transferred balance on it is that the two things don’t sit well together. The lowest rate loan must always be paid off in full before any purchases are reduced in any way. This can leave a debt at a high rate of interest untouched for six months or more.Aside form that warning, with a 11.99% regular interest rate, there is not too much need to feel perturbed by the prospect that a portion of the balance transfer might remain outstanding at the end of the period.

Other features to take into account are the cash transaction rate of 20.74%. This is no better than expected, but offers on cash transaction rates are not the norm, as this is not the type of use customers should be putting their credit card to. There are also instant discounts and added extras available with the St George Vertigo card through the St George Instant Benefits scheme. An additional card is available if required, and the card account can be linked to other St George accounts for easy transactions, and then managed via St George internet banking.

Finally, as this is a MasterCard, it benefits from their zero-liability guarantee, meaning the customer will not be charged a cent for any fraudulent use of the card. To keep on top of such issues, the Falcon Fraud system provides 24/7 monitoring and detection of suspicious transactions.

Although this St George Vertigo review will serve to give you the basics of the card, to make a comprehensive assessment requires that you make some comparisons with other similar credit cards to see which one best suits your requirements.
